The Right Rug Size: Our Simple Size Guide

A rug can have a huge impact on the look and feel of your interior. But how do you know which size is right for your space? No worries! With a few simple tips and a measuring tape, we’ll help you find the perfect fit.

For the Living Room

When choosing a rug for your living room, we recommend placing it partially under the sofa. Make sure it extends about 20–30 cm on all sides for a balanced and stylish result. Also, leave at least 20 cm of space between the rug and the wall.

Have a smaller space? No problem! Just make sure the front legs of your furniture rest on the rug. This creates a cohesive and inviting look.

Working with an organic or irregular-shaped rug? Feel free to play with the lines and shapes of your space. Let your creativity flow!

For the Bedroom

A well-chosen rug in the bedroom can highlight the bed while adding extra comfort. For a harmonious look, it’s best to place the entire bed and surrounding furniture on the rug, with an extra 40–80 cm of rug visible on each side.

For example:

• A 140x200 cm bed fits perfectly on a 200x300 cm rug, giving you 80 cm of visible rug on either side.

• A 180x200 cm double bed also looks great on a 200x300 cm rug.

Looking for a playful or visually extended effect? Let the rug extend under the bed by about one-third.

For Under a Dining Table

To prevent chairs from slipping off the rug, make sure there’s enough space between the back legs of the chairs and the edge of the rug. Ideally, choose a rug that is 75 to 100 cm longer and wider than the table.

If you’re working with less space, a minimum of 50 cm on each side can also work. And don’t forget the seats at the head of the table — they need just as much room for a comfortable and stable setup!
